Coach Imama Amapakabo has disclosed that Enugu Rangers are battle ready for the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League season which kicks up in ten days’ time.
The Flying Antelopes’ triumph last season in the NPFL broke the jinx of 32 years trophy drought, and the boss says that his side are just awaiting the NPFL kickoff on the 14th of January.
“As a matter of fact we have been able to prepare like any team that wants to go for competition should prepare, we have done the bit we are supposed to do and we are waiting for the date the league will commence in earnest,” Amapakabo told Goal
Imama also confirmed that Chisom Egbuchulam is not in his plans for the coming season, as the attacker will be joining another club in matter of days.
He added that he has signed players who will be unveiled before the season commences, and also hinted that the players the club signed are not star players but are hungry for success.
“Chisom is not staying, we already bid him farewell in the team and we pray that God should open more doors for him,” he continued.
“He was just one player in the team, one of the players that won the league last year, and as far as I’m concerned, Chisom’s book is closed. Not until I took over at the club, he was just a fringe player in the team and there are a lot of other players because the team is not built up around Chisom.
“Though he contributed immensely to the team’s success, it doesn’t mean we will go back to him cos we are moving forward.
“We’ve brought in a couple of players which I won’t want to speak about right now but as the league commences, we will be able to unveil those players for the media and fans.
“I’m not one of the coaches that go for celebrity names, but a coach that want young players who want to make name for themselves, and I believe over the time, we’ve been able to produce players that nobody gave a chance and that’s what we are doing now.”
