Enugu Rangers 3 Kano Pillars 1

The reigning league champions have begun their road to recovery with a morale boosting win against Sai Masu Gida on Sunday

Enugu Rangers started their road to recovery from their abysmal start to the season with a 3-1 home win over Kano Pillars in a rearranged league tie played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday.

The Flying Antelopes showed their intention to cut Sai Masu Gida to shreds right from start and this paid off when they stormed into the lead in the second minute through Chibuzor Madu who converted from the penalty spot after Ifeanyi George was felled in the vital area and they doubled the advantage four minutes later through Chiamaka Madu who netted from close range.

Despite leading by two goals to nil, Rangers never lowered their guard and they scored the third in the 45th minute through George who marked his debut for the reigning champions with a goal but Pillars reduced the arrears also in the added on time of the first half through Adamu Mohammed who was a former player of the Enugu side.

There was no further goal in the second half as Rangers held on stoutly to their 3-1 lead which has now taken their point tally to 16 from 15 games with four more matches yet to be played before they end their first round campaign. They will face Wikki Tourists also in Enugu on Wednesday in another rescheduled league tie.
